Risk Management
How to run safe programs
In order to create justice need to create safety
Be thinking about how to run safe programs
What are the safety hazards and how do I prevent them?
Accidents do happen, if you have done what you need to and document then you have protection if someone tries to sue
Handout
Things to keep in mind…..
Choose people who are capable of doing their jobs
Train all volunteers, document
If working with under 18—train to look out for child abuse
Diversity training
Take a first aid and CPR
If driving people be aware that you are liable
Documents
Keep documentation of what goes on at clinic every week
At the beginning have a 5 min safety talk—point out safety hazards, make documentation (perhaps a checklist)
Medical forms
Documentation of CPR and first aid training
Finger printing? Make sure more then one person is around
Sign in and sign out log—have an idea of how many people are in the space
Written description of rules, make documentation that people have read it
Need waivers for volunteers and clients
For clients one option would be to sign waivers and put them in a locked box only opened if sued
A person can sue for up to 3 years after the incident
